We have selected some of the
most stunning Living Earth images such as mountains, volcanoes, lakes, inlets,
islands, and cities. But we also know there are other areas which are distinctive to
folks. Places like a special bay, a favorite hunting camp or camping
spot, a lake, or your own piece of land. We can make this customized map art
for you.
You need to provide us with
the location you want mapped, the size of print you want it printed on, and the
map scale you desire. If we have the photographic imagery, and the geologic
information we need, we can create customized map art for you!
Our fees include the basic
pricing for all of our prints (based on size), plus a one-time fee of $50.00 to
cover the setup and interpretation of your print. Once we have made the image,
we will create an Internet quality proof (like the other samples
on this site), and e-mail it to you. You can request changes to the extent and
scale and paper sizes at this time. Once you have approved the final image,
your print will be made and sent to you.

Some Tips to Help...
Be
as specific as you can be about the location before you start. Use
references like a legal land description (Township, Range, Section,
portion of a section, etc.). If you do not have a legal land description,
try to get a set of coordinates. These can be found on USGS topographic
maps with Longitude and Latitude, or what are called UTM coordinates.
Coordinates can even be derived from sites like Google Earth® and Yahoo Maps®. If you can use these types of references, finding your location
will be much easier. Avoid offering the only reference with a name such as "Snowy Mountain".
There might be a dozen places in each state with that named peak. If you
cannot locate a legal land description or geographic coordinates, it is
possible to locate your spot using references to cities or known points
(like Everett, Washington, or Bend, Oregon, or Boise, Idaho).
Keep
your perspective on distance from your object. By this we mean that
closer (zoomed in) is not always better. By keeping your perspective at
a scale of 1:12,000 or greater (like 1:24,000, 1:36,000, etc.), you will be able to see the topography
in the imagery. When you see an object zoomed in very close you may
forfeit the texture of topography in your image. However, when you are
zoomed out to a slightly greater scale, the effect in the imagery is
more apparent. This is especially true in relatively flat country.
Where mountains and valleys are present, you can "move in" more with
larger scale maps and still see the topography. Try scales of 1:12,000
first and adjust from there when you want to see especially "close"
images.
Remember
that when you make a print smaller (for example 24"x24") you will get a
more compressed image (larger map scale) than when you see the same map
extent on a larger print (for example 36"x36"). Think of a set area,
like a city's limits presented on a 24"x24" print. Now think of that
same city presented on a 44"x44" print. The houses and streets will
show larger on the bigger print. Keep this in mind when you consider
the map extent (the area on the ground), print size, and map scale -
they are all related.
Consider
if you want additional layers added to your map print. You might want a
state boundary line, or a county boundary included as a map layer on
your print. Maybe you want to see section lines as well. You might also
want administrative layers such as a hunting unit boundary line or an
Indian Reservation boundary placed over the imagery on your print. If
this interests you, let us know when you order your proofs.
Give
us a title for your Print. We use a main title, generally one to three
words which are in bold. Below the title in a smaller font you can use
(or not use) text providing descriptions of place names or local
reference points. Finally, if you would like text added to your print
(such as you see on the examples of the Mountains and Volcanoes in our
gallery) provide this text when ordering, we will place it near the bottom-center
of the print. Customize it as you wish, it will be your print.
